GCSE Success for Adrita
Posted: 16th August 2021When Adrita Miah started secondary school, she had only been living in the UK for a matter of weeks and spoke little English.
This week, she collected six grade 9, three grade 8 and one grade 7 in her GCSEs and has her sights set on studying medicine at Oxbridge in future.
She puts her success down to her teachers and friends who helped her to learn the language and achieve top grades.
Adrita, who lives in Ilford, is going on to sixth form to study biology, chemistry, maths and psychology.
She said: “I came to London from Italy in 2016 when I was ten. I did not speak English, so it was hard work as I had only been in primary school in England for about two months before joining secondary school. But, I was given extra English classes at school and my friends and teachers helped me when I made mistakes, so I could learn from those mistakes and be better next time.
“I want to go to university to study medicine and become a surgeon, maybe a neurosurgeon or cardiologist. I then want to go to third world countries to help people with free medicine.
“My teachers did so much to help me to achieve these results. The hard work has paid off. It has been satisfying to see the great journey I have had to go on to get here.”
