Why choose WJEC Level 1/2 Award in Retail Business?

The WJEC Level 1/2 Award in Retail Business offers a learning experience that focuses learning for 14-16-year olds through applied learning, i.e. acquiring and applying knowledge, skills and understanding through purposeful tasks set in the retail sector.

The WJEC Level 1/2 Award in Retail Business has been designed to develop in learners the skills needed for progression from Key Stage 4 and GCSE learning to further education, employment and training.

What will I study?

Unit 1 – Customer experience - The purpose of the unit is to review the quality of the customer experience in a retail organisation.

 Unit 2 – Retail Business - The purpose of this unit is to enable learners to propose business solutions for a range of issues in the retail sector.

Unit 3 – Retail Operations - The purpose of this unit is for learners to apply their knowledge and understanding of retail operations to propose responses to change

What skills will I develop?

By studying Level 1/2 Award in Retail Business, the applied purpose enables learners to learn in such a way that they develop:

  • skills required for independent learning and development;
  •  a range of generic and transferable skills;
  • the ability to solve problems;
  • the skills of project-based research, development and presentation;
  • the ability to apply learning in vocational contexts

How will I be assessed?

Unit 1: Customer Experience                                                                         

  • Internally assessed controlled assignment task

Unit 2: Retail Business

75-minute examination;

  • Total of 60 marks
  • Three scenarios with a set of questions on each scenario

Unit 3: Retail Operations

  • Internally assessed controlled assignment task

Careers with Retail Business

This qualification provides learners with a broad appreciation of work in retail business related industries and wider opportunities for progression into further education, employment or training.
